This Is Why I Write

I need to share something that happened to me today. Nine years ago I corresponded with a young man who was a student in a family member’s 8th grade English class. He read the copies of my Broken Worlds Books 1 and 2 she kept in her class library and became enamored with the story. His teacher put him in touch with me and we wrote back and forth for

Spell-Bound – Spirited and Spicy

My latest novel, Spell-Bound, is my first foray out of the world of YA and firmly into adult fiction. I am calling it an adult Contemporary Fantasy because Urban Fantasy doesn’t seem to fit the setting of a small, West Virginia coal town. Definitely not urban. No inner-city grit, just coal dust and cinders. The story follows a young drifter named Jamie who rides into town on fumes and runs

I’m Ready for my Closeup, Mr. Demille!

Soon to be media darling, Mike Ghere, was featured tonight in a live interview by best-selling author, Tracy Lawson. The verbal sparring was fast and furious, making the half-hour discussion seem to simply fly by. The winners of this debate were obvious; their fans. Just listen to what people are saying: “It was an action-packed 30 minutes of pure enjoyment!” said Mr. Norwin N. Portent Miss Hedden D. Clowds gushes,

Book Signing Event – May 28, The Art Break in Logan, OH

I will be at the Art Break/Piano Works from 11am – 2pm on May 28. It is located at 44 Main Street in Logan, OH. I will have all three books of the Broken Worlds series available for purchase and signing, so you can start the adventure or continue it. Depending on the day (and the extent of my public speaking aversion) I may do a little reading as well.

Licking County Library Author Fair – April 16, 2016

I had a great time at the Author Fair this past Saturday. Though the outstanding spring weather may have kept the crushing crowds away, it was a nice day of talking to people about my books and holding great conversations with fellow authors. At the last minute (OK, two days before), I had some thoughts on how to set up my table to get more attention. We had the black skull

Off to the Printers

Broken Worlds, Book III: Patterns in the Cracks has been typeset and is off to the printer for approval and proofing. It looks as if my goal of a mid-March release may actually come true. That said, there is still plenty of work to do. Now we tackle the conversion to digital copies, which can be finicky. Oh well, still close enough to post the cover, as promised.

Finally, An Update

So, just an update to let everyone know what I’ve been doing. Sorry for neglecting the page the past couple of months, but I really haven’t had much news until now. I had to set Broken Worlds III aside for a while to finish another story. Some of you may remember me talking about my “Rockets and Rayguns” story from the 2014 NaNoWriMo. Well, I have been working on polishing

Close! But No Cigar

Three or four months ago I submitted a short story to the L. Ron. Hubbard Writers of the Future contest. The contest is for science fiction or fantastical short stories, and the top three winners of each quarter receive prize money for their stories, which are collected into an annual anthology. The overall winner receives a bigger prize and all winners are invited to a Hollywood gala event. It is a very well

Readin’ and Writin’, but No ‘Rithmatic

I think it is an axiom that all writers love to read. For myself, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have a book that I was either reading or planning to read. There have been times when I had two or three going simultaneously, usually from a mix of genre. My go to genre is science fiction and/or fantasy, but I have worked my way through horror, mystery, thriller, and

A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to My Blog (or The Day No Blogs Would Die)

Well, I’m back, but it was a near thing. After basking in the success of my very first blog post I was actually looking forward to posting another today. Of course I had promised myself that I would use the week to research and develop a guaranteed winner of a post, but that didn’t happen and I resigned myself to winging it. It was listening to the news this morning
